The Basics of MYP at North

North Meck partners with J.M. Alexander Middle to offer the IB-MYP, which spans grades 6-10. Click here to access more detailed information about our shared program:

Middle Years Program (MYP) - the last two years of a 5-year program (beginning in 6th grade) that takes place during the freshman and sophomore year in IB at North; students will study eight subjects using the five Areas of Interaction.

Diploma Program (DP) - a two-year program that takes place duirng the junior and senior year; students will study six subjects in great depth, and in addition, will take the Theory of Knowledge and complete the Extended Essay.

Personal Project - This is the capstone of the MYP experience in which students produce a truly creative body of work. It is produced over an extended period of time, with the guidance of teachers. Personal Projects must reflect a personal understanding of the areas of interaction. Students apply the skills acquired through one of these areas as well as approaches to learning.
Students are expected to choose their project, which can take many forms, and take the process through to completion under the supervision of a teacher in the school. This involves:
  • planning
  • research
  • a high degree of personal reflection.
